Regional Mananger Pacific Intercultural Exchange 337-643-8315 Kaplan, LA ------------------------------------- Start Use: Immediate Stop Use: July 31, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: SHELLI(866-360-0598) Residents Sought to Host International Students Pacific Intercultural Exchange (P.I.E.), a non-profit organization, is looking for families to host international students in the coming academic semester. High school classes will start soon and interested parties must apply immediately. The international students are between the ages of 15 and 18 years and come from countries such as South Korea, Germany, Thailand, Brazil, Mexico, Norway, China, and others. “The exchange program focuses on breaking down misconceptions between cultures through the medium of international exchange,” says Elvia Meza, Director of Operations for P.I.E. As there are no “typical” host families, P.I.E. can fit a student into just about any situation, whether it is a single parent, a childless couple, a retired couple or a large family. Families who host for P.I.E. are not paid, but open their homes in order to experience other cultures and share experiences with students from different countries. The deadline to match students with families is July 31 and families can select an international student based on hobbies and interests as well as gender. Family screening includes a background check, an in-home interview, and a verification of personal references. The international students are English-speaking and have their own spending money. Americans provide the caring environment, room, and daily meals. Families who host P.I.E. students are eligible to claim a $50 charitable contribution deduction on their itemized tax returns for each month they host a student. For information, contact Shelli with Pacific Intercultural Exchange at 1-866-360-0598 or visit their website at www.pieusa.org.
