I have seen the recent comments in this paper about the community wanting an ordinance passed to keep people from living in the buildings on Main Street. I happen to be one of the proud owners of a downtown building that was closed and up for sale for at least 7 years before I bought it. No one wanted it until I came along. Before I bought the building I asked if there was a city ordinance against creating residences in the Main Street buildings and was told, by people at City Hall, that there was no order against it. I have put money and labor into creating a nice space in my building, that will be livable in the near future. I want to put emphasis on the word my. I own it. It is my home now. I do not tell people what they can do with their property and I resent that anyone wants to keep me from doing what I want to my property. It would be different if there had been an ordinance in place all ready. I wouldn't have bought the place and it could have rotted down. I have been told not worry because I will be grandfathered in, but I still resent the way the community waits until someone has money tied up in a project and then decides that maybe we shouldn't let this happen. You need to decide ahead of time what you want the community to be. Any one that is now complaining about what is on Main Street needs to remember that they had the same opportunity to buy this building. For that matter you can buy it right now. Make an appointment with me and I will tell you my asking price. Until then why don't you keep your opinions to yourself like I try to. I'm finding it hard to politely say keep yourselves out of my business and mind your own. Or buy my business and then it can become your business and everyone else who thinks they want to tell you what to do.

The Calico Rock Lions Club would like to give a special thanks to the Dollar General store in Calico Rock. This store generously donated all left over Easter items to our club. This will help our club's annual easter egg hunt be even bigger and better than ever. It is nice to have businesses in town that so generously help with community organizations and projects. It is good to know that big corporations like Dollar General hold true to small town values still. Again, our club gives out a special thanks to the management and staff of our Calico Rock Dollar General!

Dear Editor I would like to take this opportunity to express how blessed we are in Izard County to have the Comunity Medical Center. On January 12th I went in for routine out patient surgery but the surgery turned out to be anything but routine.Due to complications I spent 5.5 days in the hospital.I truly believe I recieved the best care possible. The entire staff treated me above and beyond the call of duty,I knew without any doubt that they had my best interest @ heart. The nursing staff is second to none and while I hope I never need their services again, it is good to know they are there and that they care about their patients. Thank You and God Bless Samuel F. Guiltner

Dear Editor. . .At first I thought it was hilarious and then ridiculous. . . No one in their right mind would think ANY building on the Melbourne courthouse square was worth $240,000. . . and renovations to that building worth $300,000!!! Are they going to do it over in gold leaf? Honest to God, you could buy all of my Merrythought Farm for less than that. I own a big house, 56 acres, outbuildings, and a big barn. . . I'll even throw in a couple of goats for good measure. Someone please elect me to the Quorum Court!!! Such nonsense! I am not in favor of purchasing ANYTHING until they get the rural roads back in decent shape. I live off Lofton Road which is 5 miles north of Calico Rock. It is in the worst shape I have ever seen it since I have lived here. . . over 20 years. I'm disgusted with the whole bunch who support this purchase. When is the next election?

Dear Editor, HELP! I have been reading about all the county expenditures around the courthouse square in Melbourne. Gee, I'm glad they have so much money! I still do wish they would spend some of that money over here in the Calico Rock area. Who are we...the ugly step-sister? I live off of Lofton Road which is 5 miles north of Calico Rock. It is a long road and since I have lived in the area it has always been a "dirt" road. If it gets a very bad area the county may come in and put ONE load of gravel in the bad spot and consider us lucky to get that! Right now the road is in the worst condition I have ever seen in my 20 years here. By comparison, the road to the Izard County fairgrounds is lovely and has about the same number of residents on it as Lofton Road, and is of similar length. Where did all that FEMA money go? I would like to have an accounting from the Quorum Court! Barbara Fischer Merrythought Farm Calico Rock

I moved to this area about seven years ago from Brandon, MS. I have dealt with many Healthcare Professionals and a lot of them judge you for whatever reasons. For me it was being overweight and having tattoos. There are two in our town that go out of there way and far from their call of duty. One being, Dr. McClain, our chiropractor in town. This man helps you any way that he can. He has helped me with my fibromyalgia and arthritis. I do not know what I would do without him or his treatments. Th other, is our pharmacist, Sarah Mitchell. She is a very compassionate person. For both of them to be Healthcare Professionals, they are GREAT people. They do not judge you and are very kind and understanding. I could not find that special care in MS. That is why I love the small community life. People take the time to say hello and how are you doing. Thanks to the both of them and I know that they will keep up the great jobs that they do for the people of our community. Thanks Dr. McClain and Sarah Mitchell,- submitted by Christy Smith.
