Pharmacies start phase 1-b of Covid Vaccinations

As 2021 begins, Arkansans will soon have a chance to get a COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine has been in Arkansas for almost a month  and according to Governor Asa Hutchinson the plan is to administer the vaccine to those in the first phase, which also includes health care workers and nursing home residents and staff, by the end of January.   On Tuesday, Jan. 12, Gov. Hutchinson announced that the state is on target to complete phase 1-A by the end of the month. This means the state will be moving to vaccinate people 70 and older, K-12 school staff/employees, daycare employees and higher education staff/teachers under phase 1-B beginning next Monday, Jan. 18.  For those in Izard County who are eligible for vaccines under this phase the local pharmacies will be the point of distribution. They will need to contact the pharmacy they normally use to fill prescriptions and schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine. If you have already called the pharmacy and are on their list, you do not need to call again. For those who do not fall within the current phases guidelines you can still call your pharmacy and see if you can be put on the vaccination list for the phase you will fall under. Many local pharmacies including Mitchell’s Park Street and Corner Drug Store will be happy to place you on their list.
