USACE plans prescribed burns around Bull Shoals and Norfork lakes

Personnel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mountain Home Project Office and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will conduct prescribed burns on public land surrounding Bull Shoals and Norfork lakes until the second week of April.

Norfork burn locations are Chapin Point, Dillinger Point, Woods Point, Arnett Point, and the Tracy Ferry Area. The Bull Shoals burn locations are Strawberry Point and Indian Point.  If you have hunting stands located in any of these areas that may be damaged by the prescribed burn, please remove them immediately.

The prescribed burns will be conducted when weather conditions are favorable.

Periodic burning improves stand health and enhances wildlife value.  The burning will reduce wildfire fuel loads by removing debris such as leaf litter, treetops, and limbs.  Prescribed burns also improve habitat for wildlife by promoting vigorous growth of non-woody vegetation and grasses which are important to wildlife for food and protective cover.  Burning also releases important nutrients into the soil and exposes the soil to sunlight which stimulates the formation of grasses and other green plants forming fibrous roots which help control erosion.
