Community eclipse planning effort needs you!

For the past couple of months, members of the community have begun coming together to plan and prepare for the coming total solar eclipse to occur in early April of next year.  The goal. . .  to do the very best we can as a community to ensure residents and visitors alike have an enjoyable, safe experience of a lifetime.

Although conversations began some time ago on a small scale, over the past three months or so a growing group of volunteers has met twice at The Nook on Peppersauce Alley in Calico Rock.   During those meetings, eager to learn residents shared concerns, challenges and opportunities to be considered as the planning process moved forward.

A major accomplishment has been the start-up of six working committees that were identified to address different bodies of work that had been defined at a high level.  The committees are continuing to add members as willing volunteers step up and raise their hands.

As previously reported, those committees include the following:  Media/Marketing, Lodging, Food & Food Services, Activities/Events, Traffic Control/Parking and Public Safety/Health.  At this point, each committee is looking for volunteers to help them move their work forward.

A Facebook page dedicated to providing information specifically on the coming eclipse in Calico Rock has been put in place named: Solar Eclipse Information for Calico Rock.  All are encouraged to first Like or Follow the page and second, to access information on volunteer opportunities and how to sign up to volunteer, whether it be for one specific committee which energizes you or as a general volunteer who just wants to get in the action.

In addition to the new Facebook page, a QR code (see above) has been created which when scanned will take the viewer directly to a Google document that contains a form for completion and submittal for those who wish to volunteer, after which you’ll be contacted by either chairperson of the committee you select or by a process administrator if you just want to get involved by don’t yet know what you’d like to do.  FYI. . .this same volunteer sign-up form is also posted on the Facebook page, all one need to is scroll through the posts until it is reached.

The next general Eclipse Planning meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept 21 at 5:30 p.m. in The Nook.  All are invited to attend to either learn more about what is going on or to step up to volunteer.  See ya there!
