The wait is over! The 68th annual Calico Rock Lions Club Rodeo & Parade is coming to town this weekend, Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13.
The event, sponsored by the Calico Rock Lions and conducted by Rand Rodeo Company, will be held in the Tip Wiseman Rodeo Arena in Earl King Park located off Hwy 56 in Calico Rock. Gates will open at 5:30 with the rodeo starting at 7:30. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12, with those under 6 getting in free.
Everyone is also invited to come out and enjoy the rodeo parade to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday the 13th. No early registration for participating is necessary and those wishing to participate may begin lining up at 10:00 in the high school parking lot with judging to begin at 10:15.
The theme for this year is “Rodeo Champions, Legends & Pioneers”. Howard Lee and Carolyn Jeffery are this years Grandmarshals. The route will begin at the high school, proceed down state Hwy 56, and conclude by passing through the downtown Historic District on Main Street. You may call parade coordinator Jocelyn Walker at 870-373-0192 to obtain more information about float categories, judging and prizes.
Back this year will be a music concert to be held Saturday evening from 6:00-7:00 prior to rodeo action. The event is sponsored by the First National Bank of Izard County. On Saturday afternoon a special Saturday Slack event will be held featuring goat tying and poles.
As always, the concession stand will be operating each evening with proceeds going to support local Lions service projects as well as the club’s Vision Assistance program which assists with the purchase of eye exams and eyeglasses for underprivileged applicants.
All are encouraged to attend and have a family fun time while also helping the Lions raise money to fund their many charitable community projects!
