Norfork Council approves another business license
Meeting in regular session last Tuesday evening with all members present the Norfork City Council considered an application for a city business license from the owner of Klear Kuntry Kayak & Kanoe who had been granted Council approval for this new business a few months ago.
The new business is called Breeze Way Rentals and will offer lodging accommodations in the two log structures that have been under construction for the past few months on property adjacent to the Norfork Veterans Memorial on Hwy 5.
Before asking for a vote, Mayor Harrison advised that she had received complaints on construction work crews parking and staging equipment around and near the Veterans Memorial blocking space for those wishing to visit the memorial.
She went on to say that she had spoken with the business owner advising that parking would be strictly monitored with new signage being placed around the memorial with parking restrictions being strongly enforced.
Following some discussion regarding parking concerns, the Council voted unanimously to approve the license as requested.
Mayor Harrison shared that she understood the same business owner would be applying for an additional license to operate a small food service business from a small building to be constructed on property adjacent to both his other licensed businesses between the Veteran’s Memorial and the Lazy Enchilada Mexican restaurant.
This revelation prompted additional discussion on the scarcity of parking along the downtown corridor along Hwy 56. It was noted that many small towns face similar challenges as they grew their business community. The possibility of constructing a parking area was surfaced as something to keep on the radar for the future.
In response to a request for status, Mayor Harrison advised that she had proceeded to sign the lease agreement with the Youth Center Board for lease of the city-owned building currently used by the group to provide after school and summer activities for local and area youth.
Having no other business, the meeting was adjourned.
