Watch for buses as schools start

It’s almost the time of year when school buses will start picking up and dropping off our kids. We wanted to take a moment and remind you of the law regarding passing a stopped school bus while loading or unloading children.
Arkansas code annotated 27-51-1004 states when a school bus stops and displays its alternating red warning lights for the purpose of loading or unloading passengers, every operator of a motor vehicle or motorcycle meeting or overtaking the school bus from any direction shall bring the motor vehicle or motorcycle to a complete stop not less than 30 feet before reaching the school bus. This included any roadway, public or private.
If you do and are caught, you could face up to a $2500 fine, 40 hours of community service, and a suspension of your driver’s license from 21 days up to 1 year if you are found guilty in court.
