City Council convenes for two special sessions

Last Thursday evening all members of the Calico Rock City Council met in special session to discuss two topics of importance which were touched on during its regular monthly meeting the prior Monday.

Mayor Hamby called the first meeting to order advising the purpose, which was the consideration of bids submitted to the city for the repair and replacement of a number of streets within the city limits.

The streets to be addressed include the following: Mason Street, Russell Street, Hospital Drive, Oak Street, East 4th Street, Maple Street Loop, Gravel Alley, Pine Crest Trail and Dogwood Drive.

Following a review of the bids, the contract was awarded by unanimous vote to Trico Quarry & Paving, Inc. out of Horseshoe Bend.  Total amount of the contract as per the Trico bid was $197,490.   Having concluded the business for which this special meeting was designated, the meeting was adjourned.

Immediately following adjournment, Mayor Hamby proceeded to call the second special meeting to order during which the recent resignation of the Calico Rock Volunteer Fire Department Chief, Jeff Sanders, was to be discussed.

As the matter involved personnel, a vote was taken to reconvene in executive session.  After approximately 30 minutes the Council returned from executive session, reconvened in special session and announced that “no action” had been taken.  With that, the meeting was adjourned.
