Duel service for Thomas and Mary Jones
Thomas Jones was born September 8, 1937 and passed away on May 9, 2023 in Wichita, Kansas after battling a brief illness. He was the oldest son of Alva and Ersel Jones of Calico Rock, Arkansas. Tom married Mary Francis Summers (Gasville, Ark) on August 6, 1959, and they eventually ended up living in Wichita, Kansas. They had four children: Skot Jonz (Palm Springs, Ca), Chari Jones (Harrison, Ark), Kelly Jones (Wichita) and Judi Jones (Dee) of Wichita. He is survived by his sisters Betty McCracken (Johnny) and Sue Jones and brothers Charles Jones and Jerry (Margie), all of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and his brother Terry “Buster” Jones. Tom was proud of his four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Tom spent the majority of his working life in the vinyl industry making pool covers, awnings, and a variety of shelters. Two of his proudest projects were making the horse stalls for the Olympic equestrian team and the gorilla tent at the Sedgwick County Zoo. He loved his work and was still working until the day he was hospitalized.
Tom was an avid sports fan that could give you the stats of any player in any sport. He often spoke about his regret of not playing professional baseball but admitted it was because he could never hit that dang curveball. Tom loved gardening and being outdoors and is remembered as one of the founders of the Two Rivers Youth Club softball complex in Wichita for which he spent years of back breaking labor to create beautiful, state-of-the-art diamonds for generations to come.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday May 27th at 2:00pm at Spring Creek Cemetery. Please bring lawn chairs.
